Aircraft Procedures

BEFORE FLIGHT

Check your booking on the club's scheduling system, making certain you will have the aircraft back by the time you said you would and that you actually have the plane booked.

Take aircraft keys and Flight Record slip checking that the beginning Tach time agrees with the ending Tach time recorded on the Aircraft Log & Squawk Sheet from the previous flight.

Check Master Switch, Control lock (or seat belt around yoke on some aircraft), general neatness and confirm Tach time with the Flight Record Slip. In case of discrepancies in Tach time, have another person verify if possible.

Preflight aircraft in accordance with Pilots Operating Handbook and use CHECKLISTS for ALL operations.

Flight plans and fuel tank gauges should assure that each flight has a reserve of at least one half (1/2) full in each main tank. If quantity falls to 1/4 full, land at nearest airport and refuel.

AFTER FLIGHT

If the flight time since full tanks for ALL aircraft is one (1) hour Tach time or less, refueling is optional. If flight time since full tanks is over one (1) hour Tach time, the aircraft must be refueled. If, for any reason, you do not refuel the aircraft you must add .2 hour to your ending Tach and your flight charges. At Oakland, refuel at the self-service pumps; use of the refueling truck incurs a surcharge for which you, not the club, will be responsible. Refueling at other airports is encouraged when the price is significantly less than at Oakland. Clean windscreens if needed. Oil, if needed, should be obtained from the Club supply since it is much cheaper. In any case, be sure to keep the fuel receipt to submit with the Flight Record slip and your payment. The Club is not responsible for tie-down fees you incur at other airports.

On returning the aircraft to the flight line after flight make sure:

  • Master Switch is OFF
  • Control lock is in (or secured as appropriate for aircraft)
  • A/C is as clean or cleaner than when you got it
  • Record ending Tach time on Flight Record slip
  • Lock doors including baggage door, if any
  • A/C is positioned properly in correct tie down space
  • Three (3) tie downs are secured
  • Wheel chocks are in place
  • Align 2 blade prop to horizontal position

Back in the office, complete Flight Record slip, subtracting beginning Tach time from ending Tach time, and multiply result times rate per hour, less any fuel and/or oil for which you paid. Make payment to Alameda Aero Club by check or money order. No Credit and Cash is NOT acceptable.
