The Alameda Aero Club has always been a not-for-profit club dedicated to making flying accessible and affordable to everyone. We are based at Oakland International Airport (KOAK) in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. We welcome new members from anywhere in the world and from all walks of life.

The club began as the Aero Club of the Naval Air Station in Alameda. When the Navy closed NAS Alameda, the club moved to its current location at Oakland Airport and opened its membership to everyone. Our aircraft and clubhouse are located in the "Old T-hangars" area of the North Field, just off of Harbor Bay Parkway.

We have about 170 members and own two Cessna 172s. We rely solely on member dues and rental income to keep us financially solvent. We also rely heavily on our members' voluntary work to keep the club organized and working efficiently.

Membership offers student or experienced pilots more of what they are looking for in a flying club. As a member, you are a part owner of the aircraft. You enjoy 24 hour access to all the planes via our convenient, web-based reservation system. In close proximity to San Francisco and East Bay cities, Oakland International serves as a convenient airport for both your ground transportation and flying needs. Student pilot training in the Oakland area is more challenging, given the diversity of terrain, airspace, and international airport setting.

Bigger Is Not Better

As volunteer owners of the Alameda Aero Club, we pride ourselves in providing our members with all the "bells and whistles" found in more expensive, larger clubs. Our automated, web-based reservation system allows you to check schedules and reserve planes from home, using a web browser. We have a variety of aviation-related video tapes and DVDs to help you with ground school and private pilot topics. Our website offers easy access to club info, aircraft data, aviation organizations, and more.

Membership Costs

Joining the Club requires:

  • $70.00 refundable deposit

  • $30.00 first month's dues

  • Total $100.00.

That's it. Monthly dues continue to be $30.00 per month. Family members are welcome to join for $5.00 a month and inactive members pay $10 per month. No security deposits, no initiation fees, no mandatory assessments for cancellation due to bad weather etc... just a phone call.

Aircraft Rental Rates

Unlike many clubs, we use tachometer time, not Hobbs time, to compute flying costs for our aircraft. This significant difference saves students and members roughly 20% over straight Hobbs time. Further, all time is "wet," meaning all rental rates include fuel.

Instruction Rates

Be a Pilot

Club instructors are fellow club members operating as independent contractors.

Whether you're just starting out, adding an IFR ticket, need a flight review, instrument proficiency check, or doing "Wings" training, our instructors are ready to help you.

The club also participates in the "Be A Pilot" introductory flight lesson program. If you are new to flying, email a participating instructor to schedule your $59 introductory flight lesson.

Aircraft Rental Policy

As a member of the Alameda Aero Club, during the first 24 hours you have a plane, you only pay for the hours the airplane is actually flown. This includes weekends and holidays. Unlike other clubs, a full day is defined as just that--a full day. Minimum flight time after the first 24 hours is just 2 hours a day.

Leasebacks

The club is always looking for good aircraft for leaseback arrangements — download our leaseback terms for a description, or get in contact with the club President <president AT alameda-aero DOT com> or Chief Pilot <chiefpilot AT alameda-aero DOT com>.

Rules & Regulations

The club's formal rules are spelled out in our Club Rules and bylaws pages.
